Work title: zagreb_A Place for Every one

THINK PUBLIC SPACE Zagreb…A PLACE FOR EVERY ONE The city consists of vibrant societies which are interactive and offer people numerous opportunities for social gatherings. The city is abound with historical monuments, which form important landmarks of the city and are a legacy of Zagreb’s rich historical past. The city has many colors of tradition & culture which attract a diverse range of people from across the globe. It is a place of public realm. The architecture of Zagreb itself became an item for display and an advertisement for the building achievements. But, we must understand the difference between exploiting nature and utilizing nature. As a designer this is an opportunity to envisage great experimental possibilities. The essential being the emphasis on function and appropriate usage of material integrating the structure. The structure is the bridge uniting the essential and the aesthetic side of the human soul. The aesthetic side being the unity in form ensuring harmony in a system of proportional relationships, adhering to human scale. Zagreb city consists of vibrant societies which are interactive and offers people numerous opportunities for social gatherings. Hence, the terrace/podium of the new wing building will acts as a Plaza for Social, Cultural and Educational activities. This Ceremonial plaza (on ground level) can server as a prominent stage for National Events and Civic space for public gathering. New wing proposed activities are placed along the road side(common spaces) like any street plan, which gets visually connected to the Ceremonial plaza. Thus serving as a platform encouraging encounters between Society, Education and Culture. Thus any activity should not be considered in isolation, but in a holistic manner. purpose:  To serve the community as an institution dedicated to excellence in cultural education through exhibitions and different visual and intellectual media.  To engage the community, especially children.  To promote cross cultural understanding and cultural awareness at all levels. Design elements:  FOCAL ICONIC STATUE  MAIN ENTRANCE  CEREMONIAL PLAZA (should accommodate large number of people)  RAMP to the basement for goods loading/ unloading. (Services and collection-storage under sculpture garden)  PARKING under sculpture garden (the service ramp can be used for the access to the parking)  CONNECTING BRIDGES  OPEN PAVILLIONS AT GROUND LEVEL  COURTYARDS  SCULPTURE GARDEN  WATER BODY  LAWNS, OPEN SEATINGS & SHRUBS ETC.  GLASS ELEVATOR  OPEN AIR THEATRE  SKYLIGHTS (for basement galleries) • Amphitheatre in the center serves as a platform for public activities. • Visitor traffic at the entrance can be controlled by providing a long double height walk-way. • Internal ramps on the north side, creates a visual connectivity with the neighbourhood thus enhancing the public realm. • Hidden structure in the ground helps the possibilities of more gatherings on ground. • Enclosed connecting walkway around the courtyard will create a prominent feature and unite the three built masses.
